Since the launch in 2013, 81% of Help to Buy sales have been to first time buyers using the scheme to help get onto the housing ladder. Thanks to the government-backed initiative, newlyweds and first time buyers Natalie (31) and Drew Greenall (31) have purchased their first property together, a three-bedroom semi-detached home at Millwood Designer Homes’ Woodlands View development in Hastings, East Sussex.
Natalie, a self-employed Mental Health Coach, explains: “Drew and I were living together in rented accommodation for about a year, before we decided we wanted to get onto the property ladder. Effectively, we were throwing money down the drain every month while renting. Being local, I had my eye on Millwood’s development in Hastings and specifically the most recent phase of homes. We also have some friends who live at Woodlands View and were really impressed when we came to visit. They love living at the development and spoke very highly of Millwood.”
Woodlands View offers a range of two to five-bedroom terraced, semi-detached and detached homes, set high above the sea-side town of Hastings. The second phase of four and five bedroom homes at Woodlands View offer the perfect place for families to call home. Available with Help to Buy, purchasers will be able to buy with as little as a 5% deposit, whilst the Government will provide an equity loan of up to 20% of the property’s value, which is interest free for the first five years.
Natalie continues: “As I’m self-employed, it made perfect sense to use Help to Buy, which was extremely beneficial to us. When searching for a new home, we were completely open to looking at a range of properties, however I am so glad that we chose new build. To me, buying new was massively appealing and it has been lovely that nothing needs repairing or bringing up to standard. Also, Millwood let us choose some of the interior features in our home including the worktops and flooring for the kitchen and bathrooms.”
“Ultimately, we wanted to move to be in a comfortable position to start a family in the near future. This property has really ticked all those boxes and had everything we were looking for. Three bedroom houses seem to get snatched up quite quickly so we were extremely lucky. We have three bathrooms in total, a lovely sized garden and off-street parking. Our house is nicely tucked away on the development, so it’s lovely and quiet. On the weekends when we sit in the garden sometimes we can hear sheep in the surrounding fields.”
Natalie concludes: “The local area was extremely important to both of us as we wanted to be placed somewhere convenient. Woodlands View is in a great location for us, it only takes Drew ten minutes by car to get to work now. Hastings has some lovely quirky places to visit like The Old Town, as well as the beach. We lead such busy lifestyles, its lovely to be able to come back to a retreat at home. I think it will be a lovely setting for bringing up a family.”
Hastings is conveniently situated on the south coast with major cities and towns such as Brighton & Hove and Royal Tunbridge Wells only an hour away. From Hastings station trains into central London currently takes 90 minutes, however with the proposed introduction of High Speed rail links to Hastings will reduce the journey time from Hastings to Kings Cross to 68 minutes.
Prices at Woodlands View start from £240,000 for a two bedroom house, £485,000 for four bedroom houses and from £550,000 for five bedroom houses, available with Help to Buy. For more information please visit www.millwooddesignerhomes.co.uk or call 01424390150.
